A fine Imperial Satsuma pottery cricket cage, and cover, c. 1880, Meiji Petiod. The reticulated cage, modelled as a length of fabric, tied with a knot, which forms the overhead handle. Elaborately enamelled and gilded with dense floral scroll, and flowerheads; the neck with a continuous millefleur motif.
Having a similarly reticulated, and decorated cover, surmounted by a flower bud issuing between leaves, as the finial.
Height – 10.2 cm, 4”.
Diameter — 6.5 cm, 2 1/2”.
Condition – Excellent. No damage. No restoration.
