Japanese porcelain Imari charger of large size, c. 1700, Genroku Period. Hand painted to the centre, with a large jardiniere containing flowering plants, on a terrace, with butterflies flying above.
The trees broad border, with panels, unusually decorated with a bare breasted Bijin practicing calligraphy, whilst a young child watches on. Divided by further panels of stylised flowers.
Diameter – 55 cm, 21 3/4”.
Height – 9.5 cm, 3 3/4”.
Condition – Excellent. No damage. No restoration.
