Martin Brothers ‘Herons’ vase, dated 1874.

Martin Brothers stoneware ‘Herons’ vase, dated 1874. The tall vase, having incised decoration of a large heron, wrestling with a snake, amongst flowering trees. Highlighted in cobalt blue. Two further herons in flight, along with a butterfly, and a dragonfly.
The neck with a continuous incised arch motif. Set upon a spreading circular foot.

Inscribed ‘R.W. Martin, 10/74’, and ‘D29’ to the base.

Height: 29 cm, 11 1/2”.

Width: 11 cm, 4 3/8”.

Condition: Excellent. No damage. No restoration.
