Allibhoy Vallijee & Sons Despatch box, Kashmiri, India, c. 1890.The metal despatch box, elaborately hand painted in Kashmiri style, with panels of dense floral scroll in vibrant enamels, and gilt. The lid with panels of Islamic script.
Opening, to reveal a salmon pink painted interior, the drop down interior cover of the lid, painted with vases, and further floral scroll, surrounded no by panels of Islamic script.
Having swing handles to either end, and retaining original key, to the Chubb lock.
Mounted oval plaque, with the address for Allibhoy Vallijee & Sons, Mooltan, to the front of the box.

Depth – 31 cm, 12 1/4”.
Height – 18 cm, 7 1/8”.
Condition – Some typical age related wear to the enamel. No repair.
