Arita a pair of Oil & Vinegar ewers, Japan, c. 1700. Genroku Period.

A rare pair of Arita porcelain Oil and Vinegar ewers, c. 1700, Genroku Period. Both ewers hand painted in underglaze blue, with dense scrolling vine, around roundels inscribed ‘A’ and ‘O’. The bulbous bodied ewers, with spouts, and pierced offset scroll handles, painted with karakusa scrollwork.
Both ewers beautifully potted, and having a fine glaze.

Height – 10.2 cm, 4”.

Width – 9.5 cm, 3 3/4”.

Depth – 8 cm, 3 1/8”.

Condition – Chip to the spout of the ‘Oil’ ewer – please see images for detail. Otherwise in excellent condition.
