Copeland Spode porcelain plate, Heron, Charles Brayford Brough, c. 1880. Finely gilded with a Heron in flight above a flowering plant.
The moulded border, with further gilt decoration, and enamelled jewelling.
All on an underglaze cobalt blue ground.
Printed factory mark to the reverse.
Diameter – 21 cm, 8 1/4”.
Condition – Excellent. No damage. No restoration.
Charles Brayford Brough was employed by Copeland Spode from 1880 – 1903. He became one of their most significant artists, and was renowned for his raised gilt work, gaining recognition for his work at the Paris Exhibition of 1889.
