A fine Derby porcelain plate, c. 1815. Beautifully painted by Richard Dodson, with brightly coloured birds, in a wooded river landscape.
All within an elaborate gilt border of palmette, scrolls and cornucopia.
Iron red crowned batons and D mark to the reverse.
Diameter – 22.2 cm, 8 3/4”.
Condition – Very minor wear to the overglaze enamel. No damage. No restoration.
Richard Dodson followed in his fathers footsteps, as a painter at the Derby factory, working there between 1813 and 1820.
He specialised in painting exotic looking birds, in traditional, rural landscapes.
