A fine and unusual ‘Farmers Arms’ English porcelain jug, probably Coalport, dated 1839. Printed and hand painted to one side with the ‘Farmers Arms’, above a scene if farm animals, chickens and ducks.
The other side with a courting couple in a rural setting, around a poem detailing the life of a farmer, and concluding with ‘God speed the plough, And health to the honest old Farmer’.
Inscribed in gilt, John Machin, Hinstock, 1839’.
Hinstock is a village in Shropshire, near Market Drayton.
Height – 18 cm, 7 1/8”.
Width – 21 cm, 8 1/4”.
Depth – 17 cm, 6 5/8”.
Condition – Excellent. No damage. No restoration.
