Japanese ‘Imari’ porcelain barbers bowl, Arita, late 17th Century. Edo Period. Hand painted in Imari style, with a jardiniere of flowering plants,upon a terrace. The broad, flared rim, painted with phoenix in flight, divided by panels of flowerheads, on an underglaze blue ground.
The reverse, with two flowering branches.
Having a recess for the neck, and original twin pierced holes for suspension.
Height – 7 cm, 2 3/4”.
Diameter – 25.6 cm, 10 1/8”.
Condition: Small chip to the rim. No restoration.
