Imari porcelain gourd shaped dish, Arita, Japan, c. 1890, Meiji Period. The unusual gourd shaped dish, hand painted in typical Imari colours, with panels of birds flying amongst plants, and a fan shaped panel of plants. All on an iron red ground decorated with a dense ground of leafing vine.
The underside, with a band of continuous floral scroll.
Underglaze blue flower mark to the base.
Length – 32.3 cm, 12 3/4”.
Width – 19.5 cm, 7 5/8”.
Depth – 4 cm, 1 5/8”.
Condition – Excellent. No damage. No restoration.
