Imperial Satsuma earthenware vase, circa 1870, Meiji Period.

An Imperial Satsuma earthenware vase, circa 1870. Meiji Period. The baluster shaped vase, moulded with a dragon, flying over cobalt blue ground lappets, decorated with stylized waves, and scrollwork. Continuous panels containing stylized flowering plants adorn the body of the vase, above further lappets containing scrolling plants.
Satsuma Mon and gilt signature to the base.

Height – 18.2 cm, 7 1/8”.
Diameter – 13 cm, 5 1/8”.

Condition – Typical minor wear to the gilding. No damage. No restoration.
