Japanese Imari bowl, c. 1700, Genroku Period. The exterior of the bowl hand painted with panels of birds amongst foliage, divided by wave shaped panels containing flowering plants, on a cobalt blue ground.
The interior with a central circular panel of an exotic bird flying above plants, before a fence. Cherry blossom floats on a stylised stream around the rim.
Set upon a foot rim, painted in underglaze blue with stylised flowerheads.
Diameter – 21 cm, 8 1/4”.
Height – 9.6 cm, 3 3/4”.
Condition – Minor wear to the gilt, and overglaze red enamel.
