Japanese kiseru with hardwood and silver case. Isobe Shousei.

Japanese kiseruzutsu, kiser, and presentation case, signed Isobe Shousei, Meiji Period. The wood case, onlaid in silver, with an owl upon a perch, observing a smaller bird flying towards him; the cover, with a further silver bird. The case with carved inscription, and seal mark in silver.
The bamboo pipe, with silver mounts, engraved with grasses, and inlaid gilt bird. Signed Isobe Shousei. Both the pipe and the case, contained within original silk lined outer case.

Length of pipe – 18cm, 7 1/8”.

Length of case – 23 cm, 9 1/8”.

 

Condition: Excellent. No repair.
