Kutani porcelain koro and cover, Japan, c. 1890, Meiji Period. Modelled as Hotei, seated with a broad grin and baring his corpulent belly. His robes finely painted with roundels of gilt cranes, and other textile motif.
The head and shoulders form the cover, with his mouth pierced to allow the emission of aroma.

Signed in red script, Kairyosha sei, Kanshido ga.

Width – 16.5 cm, 6 1/2”.

Height – 11.5 cm, 4 1/2”.

Depth – 10.5 cm, 4 1/8”.

Condition – Excellent. No damage. No restoration.
