Masons Ironstone Quart mug ‘School House’ pattern, c. 1815.
A rare and extremely large Masons Ironstone Quart mug, c. 1815. The huge, faceted mug, with a spreading foot, and vibrantly decorated in the Imari style, with the ‘School House’ pattern, within a gilt panel. The reverse with a panel of flowering plants. Both panels on an underglaze cobalt blue ground, decorated with further flowering plants.
Having a large hydra handle, terminating in a gilt head.
The base unglazed.
Whilst I am sure that this is a ‘Quart’ mug, it actually holds 2 1/2 pints comfortably.
