Meissen porcelain Cherubs, c. 1880.

A rare Meissen porcelain figure group of  Spanking Putti, c. 1880. Amusingly modelled as a three Putti or Cherubs, who have been gathering wheat. Clearly, there has been a dispute, as one Putti is being held over the wheat, whilst his ‘friends’, spank him, with some vigour. Set upon a shaped mound base, edged in gilt…… or ‘Guilt !’.

Underglaze blue Crossed Swords mark, and incised model number ‘A5’ to the base.

Height: 14.5 cm, 5 3/4”.

Width: 12.2 cm, 4 7/8”.

Depth: 7 cm, 2 3/4”.

Condition: Typical, minute chips to the wheat. No restoration.
