The Nanking Cargo, a Chinese porcelain ‘Batavian’ bowl, c. 1751. The exterior of the bowl, covered in a chocolate brown glaze, extending to the footrim. The interior painted in underglaze blue, with a pavilion, amongst trees, in a river landscape. A single flowering peony, within a roundel, to the centre. A continuous trellis motif adorns the inner rim.

Christie’s Amsterdam ‘Nanking Cargo’ label to the base.

Provenance: The Nanking Cargo sale, Christie’s Amsterdam, 28 April – 2 May 1986.

Height – 7 cm, 2 3/4”.

Condition – Excellent. No damage. No restoration.
