A large pair of Chinese porcelain pug dog candlesticks, c. 1840. The recumbent dogs hand painted in Cantonese style famille rose enamels, with flower strewn lilac ground coats, over their iron red painted bodies; heightened in gilt.
Both dogs, having large flared nozzles on their backs, to hold candles or joss sticks.
Length – 19.5 cm, 7 5/8”.
Height – 10.5 cm, 4 1/8”.
Width – 11 cm, 4 3/8”.
Condition – Repair to one tail, and one ear. Otherwise excellent condition.
