A fine pair of large Imari porcelain vases, Arita, Japan, c. 1880, Meiji Period. The baluster shaped vases, well painted in typical Imari colours, with panels of birds perched amongst pine, bamboo and plum, The Three Friends of Winter.
The necks unusually painted with boys supporting roundels containing rats.
All on a dense ground of floral and textile motifs.

Underglaze blue marks to the bases of both vases.

Height – 42.5 cm, 16 3/4”.

Diameter – 21 cm, 8 1/4”.

Condition – Excellent. No damage. No restoration.
