Pair Satsuma pottery vases. Samurai. Kinkozan, Meiji Period.

Pair of Satsuma pottery vases, Kinkozan, c. 1900. Meiji Period. Both vases, well painted with panels of Samurai riding horses, with attendants, beneath blossoming prunus trees. The reverse of the vases, painted with further panels of pavilions on a river bank, along which grow irises.
The borders with dense floral scroll in gilt, upon a cobalt blue ground.

Signed to the base of both vases.

Height – 15.5 cm, 6 1/8”.

Diameter – 8 cm, 3 2/8”.

Condition – Minute wear to the gilding, commensurate with the age of the vases. No damage. No restoration.
