Pair of Staffordshire porcelaneous’Dismal Hounds’, c. 1840. The finely modelled hounds, seated on moulded bases, coloured in underglaze cobalt blue, and edged with single gilt lines.
One hound coloured with black spots, wearing a gilt collar and chain. The second hound having liver coloured spots, with a bone at his paws.
Height – 12 cm, 4 3/4”.
Width – 10.6 cm, 4 1/4”.
Depth – 8 cm, 3 1/8”.
Condition – Typical minor wear to the gilt, and overglaze enamel – commensurate with the age of the hounds. No damage. No restoration.
