Satsuma pottery vase. Festival gathering, signed Zenkozan. Meiji Period.
Satsuma pottery vase, of large size, signed Zenkozan, Meiji Period. Well painted to the body with crowds of people attending a Festival, in extensive gardens, and before pavilions. Groups of people can be seen chatting beneath trees flowering with cherry blossom.
The neck, decorated with a band of elaborate gilt and white enamel scrollwork, on a black ground. Having a continuous band of flowing textile, beneath a band of gilt karakuso to the footrim.
Signed ‘Zenkozan’ in a seal, beneath a gilt Satsuma Mon to the base.
Height – 27.5 cm, 10 7/8”.
Diameter – 22 cm, 8 5/8”.
Condition – Excellent. No damage. No restoration.
