Satsuma pottery vase, signed Chikuzan, Meiji Period.

Satsuma pottery vase, signed by Chikuzan, Japan, c. 1890, Meiji Period. The hexagonal shaped vase, well painted with a panel containing numerous figures attending a gathering at a temple, and pavilions. The reverse with a further panel of figures walking towards the pavilions. All upon a ground of elaborate textile motif.
The neck painted with a dense ground of butterflies, between lappet borders.

Signed Chikuzan in gilt to the base.

Height – 12 cm, 4 3/4”.

Diameter – 5.5 cm, 2 1/8”.

Condition – Typical minute wear to the gilding. Even so, in excellent condition. No damage. No restoration.
